VOLLEYBALL ALL-STAR SELECTION PLAN
Nomination Deadline:
Monday noon prior to the state tournament

An All-Star nomination form will be available on the TGCA web-site
(www.austintgca.com) or mailed if requested by a coach.

  1. VOLLEYBALL COMMITTEE:

Shall be composed of the regional volleyball committee members from the East and West sections of the state. Committee members shall be elected from 1A,2A,3A schools in even-numbered years to serve a two-year term. In odd-numbered years, committee members from 4A,5A schools shall be elected to serve a two-year term. These committees will meet together at a time called by the chairperson of the volleyball committee. A chairperson shall be appointed for the East section and one for the West section of the state for each division. The East and West sections will then be divided into 1A,2A,3A and 4A,5A. It shall be the responsibility of each divisional committee to select 12 players to represent their section of the state and 8 alternates for each team. The positions for players to be selected are as follows: 3 middle blockers, 4 outside hitters, 2 setters and 3 at-large. Nominated players will be rated by the committee on a scale of 1-10 with 10 a superior. To insure equal regional representation in the selection process, the player receiving the highest ranking from each region will be placed on the appropriate East or West team. The remainder of the team will be selected by taking the players with the highest numerical rating regardless of the region. The West section is made up of Regions 1, 2, 3, 8 and part of Region 6. The East section shall be composed of Regions 4, 5, 7 and part of Region 6. The alternates will also be listed in order of preference from first to last and will be designated as middle blocker, outside hitter or setter.

II. VOLLEYBALL COMMITTEE MEMBERS: A committee member's responsibility is to screen the nominations for the All-Stars from their region and division. The selections will be made from player nominations submitted to TGCA on or before Monday noon prior to the state volleyball tournament. Screening will be based on the following criteria --

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Shall accept the final selection for All-Stars and alternates for both divisions from the East and West committee chairpersons, and will verify these players after the state tournament. These selected players will be notified in writing by the Executive Director, and only after completing and returning all paperwork sent to them will a player officially be a member or alternate of the All-Star team. The Executive Director will keep a list of the players selected until after the upcoming All-Star games. This list may be made available to any member coach who may ask for a copy of same.

* ALTERNATES -- The use of alternates will be governed as follows:
Alternates will be contacted in the order they are selected if necessary. The first alternate will be asked to participate in the All-Star game; then the second alternate will be contacted, etc., until the list is complete for the position they are selected (middle blocker, outside hitter or setter). Official notification of an alternate will be made by the Executive Director.

** GUIDELINES FOR VIDEO TAPES -- The Volleyball Committee “encourages” nomination forms be accompanied by a school volleyball schedule, statistics and a video of the nominee. The video should denote the nominee's number and color of uniform. Nominees will NOT be disqualified for not having a video.

(1) Match Play -- (competition)
Identify nominee's jersey number and color, major offensive position, major defensive position and team played against.

(2) Skills -- Limit to 5-10 minutes and shoot from floor level (wide angle).
