VOLLEYBALL ALL-STAR SELECTION PLAN
Nomination Deadline:
Monday noon prior to the state tournament

An All-Star nomination form will be available on the TGCA web-site
(www.austintgca.com) or mailed if requested by a coach.

VOLLEYBALL COMMITTEE:

Shall be composed of the regional volleyball committee members from the East and West sections of the state. Committee members shall be elected from 1A,2A,3A schools in even-numbered years to serve a two-year term. In odd-numbered years, committee members from 4A,5A schools shall be elected to serve a two-year term. These committees will meet together at a time called by the chairperson of the volleyball committee. A chairperson shall be appointed for the East section and one for the West section of the state for each division. The East and West sections will then be divided into 1A,2A,3A and 4A,5A. It shall be the responsibility of each divisional committee to select 12 players to represent their section of the state and 8 alternates for each team. The positions for players to be selected are as follows: 3 middle blockers, 4 outside hitters, 2 setters and 3 at-large. Nominated players will be rated by the committee on a scale of 1-10 with 10 a superior. To insure equal regional representation in the selection process, the player receiving the highest ranking from each region will be placed on the appropriate East or West team. The remainder of the team will be selected by taking the players with the highest numerical rating regardless of the region. The West section is made up of Regions 1, 2, 3, 8 and part of Region 6. The East section shall be composed of Regions 4, 5, 7 and part of Region 6. The alternates will also be listed in order of preference from first to last and will be designated as middle blocker, outside hitter or setter.

Special Note -- Region 6 is split into both East and West sections. In order to be equitable, Region 6 will be served by additional representation to serve only on the All-Star Selection Committee.

II. VOLLEYBALL COMMITTEE MEMBERS: A committee member's responsibility is to screen the nominations for the All-Stars from their region and division. The selections will be made from player nominations submitted to TGCA on or before Monday noon prior to the state volleyball tournament. Screening will be based on the following criteria --

The nominated players must be Seniors.

There can be two athletes from the same school named to an All-Star team. (The Volleyball Committee has the option of selecting two athletes from one school and one school only per All-Star team).

The High School Head Varsity Girls' Volleyball Coach must be a member of the TGCA by October 15 of the current year before the school is eligible to have an All-Star.

A coach may nominate only two of her/his players. (Coaches should be aware that the nominated athlete MUST ATTEND the first meeting of the All-Stars with the officials of the TGCA in the host city for the summer clinic, as well as all workout sessions and the All-Star game. Athletes who can not commit to this should not be considered for nomination).

III. ASSOCIATION COACHES: Their responsibility is to place the nomination for the All-Star teams in the hands of TGCA on or before Monday noon prior to the state volleyball tournament. Coaches may submit ONLY TWO (2) All-Star nominations.

IV. CHAIRPERSON OF THE VOLLEYBALL COMMITTEE: Will call meetings for all committees at the State Volleyball Tournament, collect the final selections of all committees and give them to the Executive Director for verification.

V. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Shall accept the final selection for All-Stars and alternates for both divisions from the East and West committee chairpersons, and will verify these players after the state tournament. These selected players will be notified in writing by the Executive Director, and only after completing and returning all paperwork sent to them will a player officially be a member or alternate of the All-Star team. The Executive Director will keep a list of the players selected until after the upcoming All-Star games. This list may be made available to any member coach who may ask for a copy of same.

* ALTERNATES -- The use of alternates will be governed as follows:
Alternates will be contacted in the order they are selected if necessary. The first alternate will be asked to participate in the All-Star game; then the second alternate will be contacted, etc., until the list is complete for the position they are selected (middle blocker, outside hitter or setter). Official notification of an alternate will be made by the Executive Director.

** GUIDELINES FOR VIDEO TAPES -- The Volleyball Committee “encourages” nomination forms be accompanied by a school volleyball schedule, statistics and a video of the nominee. The video should denote the nominee's number and color of uniform. Nominees will NOT be disqualified for not having a video.

(1) Match Play -- (competition)
Identify nominee's jersey number and color, major offensive position, major defensive position and team played against.

AND / OR

(2) Skills -- Limit to 5-10 minutes and shoot from floor level (wide angle).

Attacking skills -- left, middle, right

Blocking skills -- jumping ability, arm movement, movement (lateral)

Serve reception -- with movement (lateral, forward/back)

Ball handling skills (setting) -- from various court positions

Defensive skills -- 1. Pepper and 2. Sprawls, rolls, diving, etc.

Try to focus on specific player during game
