Basketball All-Star Selection Plan

Shall be composed of the regional Basketball Committee members from the Red and Blue sections of the state.  Committee members shall be elected from a 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A school in even numbered years to serve a two year term.  In odd numbered years, Committee members from a 5A or 6A school shall be elected to serve a two year term.  These Committees will meet together at a time called by the Chairperson of the Basketball Committee.  A Committee Chair shall be appointed for the Red section and one for the Blue section of the state.  The Red and Blue sections will then be divided into 1A-2A-3A-4A and 5A-6A.  It shall be the responsibility of each divisional committee to select 12 players as the team to represent their section of the state and 8 alternates for each team.  The alternates will also be listed in order of preference from first to last.

Their responsibility is to screen the nominations for the All-Stars from their region in their division.  The selections will be made from player nominations submitted to TGCA on-line or by mail on or before Monday noon prior to the State Basketball Tournament, or submitted to regional representatives prior to the Basketball Committee meeting.

*      Nominated players must be incoming seniors.

*      Coaches should be aware that selected All-Stars must attend the first meeting

of the All-Stars with the TGCA officials in the host city for the Summer Clinic,

as well as all workout sessions and the All-Star game.

*      A coach may nominate as many athletes as desired. All-Stars may be nominated by any member in good standing of the Texas Girls Coaches Association. For an individual to be selected to an All-Star team, the head coach must be a member in good standing. The current head coach must be contacted for approval of the player being selected as an All-Star.

*      The Committee may name two athletes from the same school to an All-Star team.  Clarification: The Committee has the option of selecting two athletes from one school, and one school only, per All-Star team on a yearly basis.

Their responsibility is to place nominations for the All-Star teams in the hands of TGCA on or before Monday noon prior to the state tournament by nominating on-line, or mailing a nomination form to the TGCA office, or submitting to a regional representative after the on-line deadline for submission to the Basketball Committee.

Shall accept from the Basketball Committee Chairperson the final selection for All-Stars and alternates for both divisions from the Red and Blue Committees and will verify these players after the state tournament.  These selected players will be notified in writing by the Executive Director, and only after completing and returning all paperwork sent to them will a player officially be a member or alternate of the All-Star team.  The Executive Director will keep a list of the players selected until after the upcoming All-Star games.  This list may be made available to any member coach who may ask for a copy of same.

The use of alternates will be governed as follows:

If needed, alternates will be contacted in the order they are selected.  The first alternate will be asked to participate in the All-Star game; then the second alternate will be contacted, etc., until the list is completed.  Official notification of an alternate will be made by the Executive Director ONLY.
