VOLLEYBALL
Nomination Deadline - Monday
All-Star nominations should be made on-line. Forms may be e-mailed or faxed if requested by a coach.
I.
VOLLEYBALL COMMITTEE:
Shall be composed of the regional Volleyball Committee members from the
Red and Blue sections of the state. Committee members shall be elected from 1A,2A,3A,4A
schools in even-numbered years to serve a two-year term. In odd-numbered
years, committee members from 5A,6A schools shall be elected to serve a
two-year term. These committees will meet together at a time called by the
Chairperson of the Volleyball Committee. A chairperson shall be appointed for
the Red section and one for the Blue section of the state for each division.
The Red and Blue sections will then be divided into 1A-2A-3A-4A and 5A-6A. It
shall be the responsibility of each divisional committee to select 12 players
to represent their section of the state and 8 alternates for each team. The positions
for players to be selected are as follows: 3 middle blockers, 4 outside
hitters, 2 setters and 3 at-large. The Red section is made up of Regions 1, 3, 4, and 6. The
Blue section shall be composed of Regions 2, 5, 7 and 8. The
alternates will be listed in order of preference from first to last and
will be designated as middle blocker, outside hitter, setter, or defensive specialist.
II. VOLLEYBALL COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
A committee member's responsibility is to screen the nominations for the
All-Stars from their region and division. The selections will be made
from player nominations submitted to TGCA on or before Monday
The
nominated players must be incoming seniors.
The Committee may name two athletes from the same school to an All-Star team. Clarification: The Committee has the option
of selecting two athletes from one school, and one school only per All-Star
team on a yearly basis.
The
high school head varsity girls' volleyball coach must be a member of the
TGCA by November 1 of the current year before the school is eligible to have an
All-Star.
Any member coach in good standing may nominate as many players from any school as desired. The current head coach must be contacted for approval of the player being selected as an All-Star. Coaches should be aware that
the nominated athlete MUST ATTEND the first meeting of the All-Stars with the
officials of the TGCA in the host city for the Summer Clinic, as well as all
workout sessions and the All-Star game. Athletes who cannot commit to this
should not be considered for nomination.
III. ASSOCIATION COACHES:
Their responsibility is to place the
nomination for the All-Star teams in the hands
of TGCA on or before Monday
IV. CHAIRPERSON OF
THE VOLLEYBALL COMMITTEE:
Will call meetings for all committees at the State Volleyball Tournament,
collect the final selections of all committees and give them to the Executive
Director for verification.
V.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
Shall accept the final selection for All-Stars and alternates for both
divisions from the Red and Blue committee chairpersons, and will verify these
players after the state tournament. These selected players will be notified in
writing by the Executive Director.
* ALTERNATES --
The use of alternates will be governed as follows:
Alternates will be contacted in the order they are selected, if necessary. The
first alternate will be asked to participate in the All-Star game; then the
second alternate will be contacted, etc., until the list is complete for the
position they are selected (middle blocker, outside hitter, setter, or defensive specialist). Official
notification of an alternate will be made by the Executive Director.
The standing committees for cross country, volleyball, cheerleading, basketball, track & field
and softball will review submitted nominations from their region and division
for the Legacy All-Star team selections. The selections will be made from player
nominations submitted to TGCA by member coaches on or before the Monday
noon prior to the state tournament or meet of the particular sport. Selections will
be based on the following criteria:
1. The nominated players must be graduating seniors.
2. The Standing Committee will select the best twenty (20) nominees in the particular
sport in 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and the best twenty (20) nominees in the particular sport in
5A, 6A.
3. The high school head varsity coach must be a member of TGCA in good standing
before November 1st of that school year before the school is eligible to have an All-Star(s).
4. A coach may nominate as many graduating senior players as desired from any school.
5. The TGCA Legacy All-Star team members in each sport will receive a certificate from
the TGCA recognizing their achievement of being named to the team. There will be no
All-Star game for these teams.
