BASKETBALL ALL -STAR SELECTION PLAN

 

 

I. STATE SELECTION COMMITTEE:
Shall be composed of the regional basketball committee members from the North and South sections of the state. Committee members shall be elected from a 1A, 2A, or 3A school in even numbered years to serve a two year term. In odd numbered years, committee members from a 4A or 5A school shall be elected to serve a two year term. These committees will meet together at a time called by the chairperson of the basketball committee. A committee chair shall be appointed for the North section and one for the South section of the state. The North and South sections will then be divided into 1A,2A,3A and 4A,5A. It shall be the responsibility of each divisional committee to select 12 players as the team to represent their section of the state and 8 alternates for each team. The alternates will also be listed in order of preference from first to last.

II. BASKETBALL COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
Their responsibility is to screen the nominations for the all-stars from their region in their division. The selections will be made from player nominations submitted to TGCA on or before February 26. NOMINATED PLAYERS MUST BE SENIORS. There can be two athletes from the same school named to an All-Star team. (The basketball committee has the option of selecting two athletes from one school and one school only per All-Star team).

III. ASSOCIATION COACHES:
Their responsibility is to place the nominations for the all-star teams in the hands of TGCA on or before Monday noon prior to the state basketball tournament.

IV. CHAIRPERSON OF THE BASKETBALL COMMITTEE;
Will call meetings for all committees at the state basketball tournament, collect the final selections of all committees and give them to the Executive Director for verification.

V. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
Shall accept from the basketball committee chairperson the final selection for all-stars and alternates for both divisions from the North and South committees and will verify these players after the state tournament. These selected players will be notified in writing by the Executive Director and, only after completing and returning all paperwork sent to them, will a player officially be a member or alternate of the all-star team. The Executive Director will keep a list of the players selected until after the upcoming all-star games. This list may be made available to any member coach who may ask for a copy of same.

* ALTERNATES
The use of alternates will be governed as follows:

If needed, alternates will be contacted in the order they are selected. The first alternate will be asked to participate in the all-star game; then the second alternate will be contacted, etc. until the list is completed. Official notification of an alternate will be made by the Executive Director ONLY.

** NORTH -SOUTH DIVISIONS

Regions 1, 2, 3 and 4 are in the NORTH zone.

Regions 5, 6, 7 and 8 are in the SOUTH zone.

These are TGCA regions. THESE ARE NOT THE SAME AS UIL REGIONS.
